What will my SMS campaign cost?
Standard SMS is 16c excluding VAT / 18.4c including VAT per segment. Multiply recipients by segments per message, then by the segment rate. Personalisation and link length can change the total.
| Recipients | Segments | Excl. VAT | VAT | Incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | 1,000 | R160.00 | R24.00 | R184.00 |
| 5,000 | 5,000 | R800.00 | R120.00 | R920.00 |
| 10,000 | 10,000 | R1,600.00 | R240.00 | R1,840.00 |
These are cost illustrations, not separate bundles or a promise of account eligibility. Review the purchase total and applicable conditions in the SMS portal. Compare current SMS and WhatsApp pricing.
Message length, encoding and credits
For supported GSM text, a single SMS holds up to 160 character units. A longer concatenated message uses 153 units per segment: 161 units therefore need two segments. Some extended characters count as two units, so visible character count alone can mislead.
Emoji, non-GSM text, personalised values and encoding can change message handling. Check the portal’s message preview for the capacity and total cost of your actual message before sending. SMS credits expire 12 months after purchase unless your ordering terms state otherwise. Read the terms.
Network acceptance and delivery information are different from a person reading or acting on the SMS. Keep your own enquiry, booking or order records to measure the outcome.
Choose the job, then the sending route
Use SMS for a useful update: an appointment, order milestone, school notice or relevant campaign. Choose the browser-based sending workflow for a team working in the portal, the SMS API for an application, or the SQL worker for a supported database queue.
For a first campaign, follow the worked campaign guide. If sensitive communication requires a separate solution, explore the full YEO offering.
