Why can a longer message cost more?
A longer SMS can be split into two or more parts. Each part is charged separately.
For example, messaging 1,000 people costs R184 for a one-part message or R368 for a two-part message, including VAT.
Emojis and some characters can also increase the number of parts. Check your message's cost in the portal before sending.
How SMS parts are counted
Each billable part is called a segment. For supported GSM text, a single SMS holds up to 160 character units. Longer messages use 153 units per part, so 161 units need two parts. Some characters count as two units.
Emojis, other alphabets and personalised values can change the number of parts. Use the portal preview for your actual message and audience.
A delivery status does not tell you whether someone read or acted on a message. Measure enquiries, bookings or orders separately.
