How does SMSFLOW’s pricing compare to other bulk SMS platforms in South Africa?
Compare bulk SMS suppliers using the same audience, message and sending workflow. The headline rate is one part of the cost; message length, VAT, credit conditions and the work needed to operate an integration also matter.
Use this checklist to compare a current SMSFlow quote with written offers from other suppliers. It makes no claim that a particular competitor is cheaper, less reliable or less compliant.
Compare SMS rates including VAT
SMSFlow’s standard SMS rate is 16c excluding VAT, or 18.4c including VAT, per SMS part. A long or Unicode message can use more than one part. Check the final message preview and account purchase total.
For 1,000 recipients, a one-part message costs R160 excluding VAT or R184 including VAT at that rate. Two parts per recipient cost R320 excluding VAT or R368 including VAT. These are cost calculations, not a minimum purchase or discounted bundle.
Check delivery definitions and evidence
Ask each supplier how it reports accepted, failed and delivered messages, and how you can investigate a disputed outcome. Compare the definitions before comparing percentages.
Delivery depends on the network, recipient and message conditions. Request acceptance is not proof of delivery or reading. Test the relevant workflow with a controlled, authorised audience before a larger campaign.
Plan for normal and peak volumes
Estimate your recipient count and message parts for a typical campaign and for a peak period. Use the same estimates for each quote.
Check credit validity, purchase conditions and any agreed volume terms in writing. Do not assume that a higher volume automatically qualifies for a lower rate.
Confirm the features in your chosen workflow
List the functions you actually need: browser sending, an API or a SQL workflow, plus the reporting and response handling required by your team.
Confirm which functions are available for the selected route and which services have separate conditions or charges. A generic feature list is not a substitute for your agreed order.
Plan support for South African campaigns
Plan the campaign for South African recipients and the way your team will support it. Read the SMS compliance guide and use the linked primary authorities when assessing your requirements.
Ask who will handle account access, sending problems and recipient requests. Confirm the support process and any agreed response commitments before relying on them.
Read the applicable credit and subscription terms
SMS credits and WhatsApp subscriptions are different purchases. Review SMS credit validity and your ordering terms; do not infer a no-contract commitment from a per-message price.
For subscriptions, the published default is a 12-month term with the stated renewal and notice requirements unless your agreed order says otherwise. Check the relevant product terms before purchasing.
Compare the complete sending cost
Compare the total cost for the same recipient count and final message, including VAT and any separately agreed services.
Then assess the workflow, documentation and support against your requirements. This guide does not claim that any supplier offers the best price or performance for every business.
Request written terms for volume requirements
If you have a high-volume requirement, ask the sales team for a written quote describing the expected volumes, destinations and message types.
Use the quoted rate only when its conditions apply. The published standard rate remains the comparison point until a different rate is agreed.
Understand the available reporting
Review the available sending and delivery information in the chosen product demonstration and documentation. Confirm the fields, retention and export options your team needs.
Keep delivery, replies, enquiries and completed customer actions separate. Ordinary SMS does not provide a reliable open/read receipt.
Budget for API implementation and real sends
SMSFlow publishes HTTPS API documentation and official .NET, Node.js and Python libraries. Compare their supported operations with your application requirements.
Include implementation, credential management and operational support in your budget. Real API sends consume credits; syntax checks and non-network fixtures can validate example code without sending messages.
Confirm number and sender requirements
If you need a particular sender identity, number or reply route, ask SMSFlow to confirm its availability for the intended network and use case before designing around it.
Request any setup, recurring or usage charges in writing. This article does not promise alphanumeric sender IDs, dedicated short codes or fee-free provisioning.
Assess your compliance requirements
A regulated organisation should review data handling, access, retention and audit requirements against its own obligations and the actual service terms.
Software alone does not establish compliance. Request the evidence your organisation requires and obtain appropriate advice for the intended messaging workflow.
Compare the offer against your workflow
A useful comparison combines the written price, supported sending workflow, operational responsibilities and applicable terms.
Record assumptions alongside the quote so the team can revisit them when volumes, message length or requirements change.
Discuss your SMS sending requirements
Start with the current SMSFlow pricing and product guides, then discuss any requirements that are not covered by the standard offer.
